The women vendors in Nazare wear traditional dress from back in the day when the oxen would be hooked up to the boats to pull them ashore. There is still one of the old fishing boats on the beach for you to imagine. Nazare is on a hill so a short drive to the upper end of town offers a fabulous view of the beach from the cliff above. Of course if you don't want to drive you can just take the tram to the top. If you see something you want to buy, buy it now because you won't find it elsewhere. This is true for most villages. They all have their own specialties, like the little hand carved boats in Nazare.

Peniche features a rugged coast worn away by thousands of years of rough waters. Hosts the annual world surf contest. If you are lucky you may see one of the 90 foot waves that occasionally happens in Peniche. An old fort that housed prisoners is a unique walk through. A commercial fishing village with ships bringing in the catch of the day, and Oh the Calderada, (fish stew) you can eat !
