AMAZING Thai fusion cuisine by renowned Thai chef - Nu. Try the TUK TUK banquet. Attentive waiters guide you through the menu to customise your experience to your tastes. I can't get enough of this restaurant - especially the King Fish dish. Be sure to book ahead as they are popular. I love the intimate booths in the Botanic Bar that accomodate 2-6 ppl. Bookings can be made online here: https://www.dimmi.com.au/restaurant/golden-boy

The Talk for the Town - covered by many travel and gourmet magazines for it's amazing African food. Africola is the latest project by award-winning restaurateur Duncan Welgemoed, and offers the flavours of South Africa by using a lot of ash and fire to cook the modern African dishes. Think “Afro-centric with James Brown throwing his flavour on it”, as Welgemoed put it. Try the FEED ME menu. Attentive staff will tailor your experience to your tastes. Delicious food, great service and atmosphere. Always BOOK AHEAD as Africola is often booked out weeks in advance. Bookings can be made online at https://www.dimmi.com.au/restaurant/africola

For out of this world dessert particularly popular with children, teens and early twenties. Usually too much sugar for everyone else :-P My kiddos LOVE the INSTA-FAMOUS SHAKES - particularly the "OMG! SNAP... CHAT... THAT!" Step into a world of bubblegum, candy and all things sweet! This bubblegum flavoured thickshake is topped with sweet treats, rainbow sour straps, and a giant lollipop to top it off.

MODERN AUSTRALIAN with master chef - Jock Zonfrillo at the helm. Very recently refurbished - this casual diner complements it’s more famous sister upstairs but stars as a standalone it its own right. Dishes at Bistro Blackwood are ever-changing and all locally sourced in South Australia. No two weeks will be the same because of their ethos of using seasonal ingredients (on staff is a full-time forager who explores and collects the best edibles from South Australia’s regions). This means freshly foraged pine mushrooms one week, and not a single fungus on the menu the next. I loved the creativity in their appetiser - the Gorgeous, earthy, Australian Salt Bush.

Mayflower Restaurant and Bar
45 King William Street
RESTAURANT / BAR - Where neon lights shine brighter than any star in the west and where Clint Eastwood can have a meal with Jay Z. Spaghetti Western takes a spin on traditional Italian restaurants with a cowboy twist, in this rustic and inviting venue. The bar is located on the ground floor and almost never without a crowd around it. The wide choice of tap beer, cocktails and an adequate wine list with local labels and a few Italian options means there is plenty to try from and to discover new favourites. On the second level lies the kitchen serving MOUTH-WATERING TRADITIONAL and MODERNISED ITALIAN meals with a few Americanised cuisines as well.

The premium venue of Adelaide’s CBD with indoor-outdoor dining space and bar, open access to the outside bar and private garden and deck. On the rooftop of the Westpac building at the corner of King William and North Terrace – right in the very centre of the city with a stunning view of Adelaide. 2KW Bar & Restaurant attracts a mainly after-work, corporate crowd – generally aged 35 and over. Some reviews have marked it pretentious, with entry conditions very strict to ensure the “right kind of crowd” – be sure to dress impeccably, as this bar is known to turn people away at the door. However, dubbed as arguably (and by many accounts) “by far the best bar in Adelaide”, it is a must-see.

Sugar is great for mid-week, hump day drinks, as it is one of the few places in the city that is open almost every night. Friday and Saturday nights also draw a steady crowd, with lots of booths, large lounges to kick back on, 5 pool tables and a dance floor – there is something for everyone! Featuring some of Adelaide’s best home grown DJs and great international acts, Sugar is one of the few places to still spin vinyl (but you know, before it became a hipster trend). There is free entry before 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights; however, Sugar does generally get busier later in the night, making it a favourite for those kicking on once other establishments have closed.

Bank Street Social is one of Adelaide’s most popular boutique small bars. Located on Bank Street (just off Hindley Street; across from McDonald’s), the underground bar is based on an old Speakeasy. From first look it reminds us of Palmer & Co and The Baxter Inn on the east coast, with fantastic attention to detail and a niche drink selection of premium spirits that caters to a growing market. With a capacity of just under 120 it’s an incredibly popular after-work and night start stop on Friday nights, especially with the 25+ crowd. Offering local craft beer and cider, boutique SA wines and spirits, plus DJ and dance-floor on select nights and a small but amazing pizza menu.

Extremely popular within the Adelaide nightlife scene. Clever Little Tailor is an Adelaide small bar that attracts a diverse range of customers, from the after-work crowd to those just wanting a quiet relaxed drink in a new but classic space. Licensed for up to 70 people, the space is small but the exposed stone walls and cleverly created spaces using different levels makes the area feel bigger. Featuring a large selection of quality and classic spirits (Belvedere vodka as standard) and some micro-brewery tap beer and wine, there is a strong focus on attention to detail and high end without the pretentiousness. A quaint and charming spot, it is a hit with the 25+ crowds.

FYI: Super California will be closing up shop for a few weeks for the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Check them out when they return on 10th March. Super California quickly made waves amongst the Adelaide club scene, with a beach-meets-desert bar feel and the old favourite juice bar made an appearance. Spinning classics from old school R&B and pop to the latest in dance and house, often gets pumping at around midnight most Friday and Saturday nights with early to mid 20-somethings – but you can most often expect a line-up by 10pm. The dress code is very relaxed and casual which fits in with the whole vibe of the venue.

Affectionately known as THE CUMBY - it's been around for as long as anyone can remember (well, anyone worth asking anyway) – but it’s recent renovations have certainly breathed new life into this CBD favourite. This venue has always been popular with anyone from uni kids to an alternative crowd. A somewhat maze of small rooms and stunning beer garden, The Cumby is once again hot – particularly for Saturday nights and Sunday arvo sessions – and well worth a look and a few bevvies while there.

Located on Leigh Street - UDABERRI has assisted to bring the laneway revival in Adelaide. Recent years has seen Leigh Street a bar hotspot; Adding to this increasingly popular hotspot, Udaberri is a cool place to chill amongst friends and meet new people, while also taking in the sights and sounds of what this small city laneway has to offer. The first thing you’ll notice is the narrow and rustic unfinished style of the interior – a very European feature and very hot right now. Serving tapas (naturally!), beers and an extensive range of wines, it may not be a final destination for dinner or drinks, but is definitely a great place to start. Friday nights are huge, with lines often occurring.

On the revived and bustling Peel Street, La Rambla is a Spanish-inspired tapas bar that is arguably the largest on the popular laneway. Occupying 3 levels including 2 bars and an upstairs courtyard, it is one of the most interesting spaces to enjoy a glass (or jug) of sangria with sophisticated bar snacks. La Rambla features an extensive international wine, beer and cocktail list available from the massive bar – cocktails are mostly original and moderately priced at around $15. Also featuring a rather large collection of small bites and an incredible tapas menu, it is not the place for a full meal but great for a stop after-work or before heading out.

Looking for a wine bar with an edge? Hunting down a new wine to rave to your friends about? Then Hellbound is your next stop! The basement on Rundle Street hardly seems like the location for Adelaide’s newest edgy wine bar district, but this snazzy little stop showcases some of the best wines South Australia has to offer. The cosy nook helps those escape the hustle and bustle out on Rundle, and retreat with a good ol glass of wine. Chef Hannah Jeffrey, has plated up a menu of delicious goods served by the bar staff to complement the wines perfectly. Good food and wine, what’s not to love?

MR MINKSY'S BAR - Adelaide’s newest and exciting rooftop bar has just opened on the busy streets of Hindley. Right from the moment when guests enter, you will be blown away by the small touches of fine, quirky details and the level of class. The spot overlooks the beautiful city and is nicely heated, we just wonder if the swimming pool is heated as well (yes there is a pool). Further in, there is a stage dedicated for the burlesque shows and acts from beautiful women, a waterfall feature, lush greenery surrounding the bar; it all ties in together beautifully to create an intimate yet unforgettable ambiance. This jazz theme bar has been highly inspired by the Broadway burlesque clubs.

WHISKEY ANYONE? Malt and Juniper is the sister venue of Alfred’s Bar, owned by the same person but this new bar has a heavy focus on spirits. With a wide variety of whiskey stowed in the back bar arranged geographically, it gives drinkers ample choice – or maybe too much? There are also your classics but the one we love is the Japanese whiskey that is worth $200 a shot; that’d be the Yamazaki 18-year-old Mizunara cask which we highly recommend trying at least once if it is in your price range. Their cocktails are seasonal with a lovely mix of fruits and herbs but their main avenue is whiskey and gin if you’re into that sort of stuff!

Two Sisters Food & Wine Bar on Goodwood Road, opposite the landmark Capri Theatre. One of the few venues pursuing an extension of the small bar liquor licensing to suburban Adelaide. It is a small, comfortable space with a strong focus on local, South Australian produce. Sit and enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese platter with friends and family. With a large, SA-only drinks list of boutique craft beers, ciders and cheeky cocktails, this small bar also showcases the “hidden gem” wineries – most of which haven’t been tried by many in Adelaide, enabling people to experience different things.

If you haven’t heard of or been to The Austral, you haven’t been out in Adelaide. This ICONIC PUB ON RUNDLE STREET is one of those places that for many, no matter where they start their night they always seem to end up here in the end. The venue is often busy from lunchtime onwards, especially with tourists, uni students and city workers. Enjoy a drink outside one of the numerous tables and chairs, and enjoy the sights and smells of the vibrant Rundle Street atmosphere. A slightly alternative and relaxed Adelaide favourite, The Austral also offers a balcony bar with great views over the east end – and thanks to its primo locale, it’s a great spot for visitors during Fringe & Mad March.
