“Established in 1901, The White Horse is one of Cork’s oldest public houses, run for many years by Mamie Murphy, the sister of Commandant Leo Murphy, one of the founders of the 3rd Battalion. In 2009 Joe and Maura Carey took over The White Horse and it continues to be one of Cork’s finest establishments serving locally produced, high-quality food daily and a range of beers, stouts, spirits and wines. Upstairs at The White Horse is one of Ireland’s most intimate music venues. The White Horse is also home to The White Horse Guitar Club and The White Horse Brewing Club.”

“Gunpowder was manufactured on the site that is now a public park from the 18th century to the start of the 20th Century. In more recent times, ownership of the land transferred from The Department of Defence to Cork County Council. The site which is currently used for recreation and amenity purposes is owned, managed and maintained by Cork Coun”

“Step back into a world where the best way to entertain yourself is by talking to the person next to you and the fire burns black turf all night long.”

“Ballincollig is a large town outside of Cork City that has a lot of history. My favorite amenity is the Gunpowder Mills or the Regional Park. It is a beautiful park suitable for walkers, cyclists or families. There are fantastic forest paths along the river and you can walk the full length of Ballincollig through the park. It also has a playground, Basketball courts, a Skate Park and a coffee van that is there from Wednesday to Sunday in the Iniscarra Bridge Car Park. The town itself has lots of coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. A cinema and plenty of Supermarkets. It also has a 24/7 Bus service which will have you in Cork city in about 20 minutes.”
