“Van Mieu- Quoc Tu Giam Quoc Tu Giam is considered as the first university in Vietnam. Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam area is surrounded by brick walls, inside is divided into 5 layers of space with different architectures. Each layer of space is limited by brick walls with 3 doors to connect with each other (including the middle door and two side doors on both sides). From outside to inside, there are two main gates, respectively, Temple of Literature and Dai Trung Mon. With more than 700 years of operation, thousands of talented people have been trained for the country. Today, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam is a place to visit domestic and foreign tourists, and is also a place to praise outstanding students and also a place to organize annual poetry festivals on the full moon day of January. This used to be where the scholars went to "lucky" before each exam by stroking the turtle's head at the doctor's stele. However, today, to preserve the monument, a fence is set up and the scholars no longer perform the ritual of good luck as before. This is a place that appears on Vietnam's 100,000 VND polymer bill.”

“HOA LO PRISON Hoa Lo Prison was built by the French in 1896 to incarcerate Vietnamese political prisoners. Conditions were horrible: by the 1930s the prison that was built for 450 prisoners housed almost 2000 and the inmates were tortured. In 1964, the Vietnamese began using Hoa Lo Prison for prisoners of war. You’ll see cells, torture instruments, the wooden ‘beds’ to which the prisoners were chained and plenty of pictures that’ll give you the shivers. Absolutely worth a visit! Location: Số 1, phố Hỏa Lò, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội. Cost: 30.000/ person Open: 8.00-17.00 (everyday) ”

“St. Joseph's Cathedral (address: 40 Nha Chung, Hoan Kiem district) St. Joseph's Cathedral is a church on Nha Chung (Church) Street in the Hoan Kiem District of Hanoi, Vietnam. Its a late 19th-century Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic style) church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi to nearly 4 million Catholics in the country. The cathedral was named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam and Indochina. Construction began in 1886, with the architectural style described as resembling Notre Dame de Paris. The church was one of the first structures built by the French colonial government in Indochina when it opened in December 1886. It is the oldest church in Hanoi. The cathedral conducts mass several times during the day. For Sunday evening mass at 6:00 PM, large crowds spill out into the streets. The prayer hymns are broadcast and Catholics who are unable to enter the cathedral congregate in the street and listen to hymns. ”

Mercado
“Đồng Xuân Market is a market in the center district Hoàn Kiếm of Hanoi, Vietnam. Originally built by the French administration in 1889, Đồng Xuân Market has been renovated several times with the latest in 1994 after a fire which almost destroyed the market. Nowadays, Đồng Xuân Market is the largest covered market of Hanoi where the wholesale traders sell everything from clothes, household goods to foodstuffs. Nowadays, the market is run by the Đồng Xuân Shareholding Company (Công ty cổ phần Đồng Xuân),[4] its three stories are divided in stalls for wholesale and small traders who sell clothes or household goods, foodstuffs of every kind from fresh vegetables to Vietnamese dishes are also found at the rear of the market.[2][8] As the biggest wholesale market of Hanoi, Đồng Xuân Market has to face problems such as counterfeit consumer goods and pollution. Đồng Xuân Market's busy trading activities have raised concerns about its pollution, which could be harmful for the health of people living in the area. Besides the commercial activities, Đồng Xuân Market is also a frequent destination of tourists during their visit in Hanoi, where they can find gifts or souvenirs for themselves or their family or friends. ”

Teatro
“The ancient art form of water puppetry has a long association with Hanoi and there are several theatres where guests can enjoy this uniquely Vietnamese take on Asia’s puppet tradition. The original – and widely regarded as the best – theatre in town is the Thang Long Puppet Theatre. Puppets dance and slide elegantly over the liquid stage, controlled by a whole troupe of puppet masters hiding behind a screen. Most shows also feature the famous Legend of the Restored Sword of King Le which tells the tale of Hoan Kiem Lake and the giant tortoise. Opening Hours: Daily 15:00, 16:10, 17:20, 18:30 & 20:00 Address: 57B, Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi Tel: +84 43 824 9494 Price Range: VND 100,000”

“This excellent modern museum showcases the roles of women in Vietnamese society and culture. Labelled in English and French, it’s the memories of the wartime contribution by individual heroic women that are most poignant. If the glut of information sometimes feels repetitive, for visual stimulation there is a stunning collection of propaganda posters, as well as costumes, tribal basketware and fabric motifs from Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups. “ there's no finer phở available than at 13 Lo Duc Street, although you could easily walk past and completely miss it if you didn't already know where it is. Wires trail over the entrance like a bad hammock and there's no name above the restaurant. Instead, a small silver sign rests against the front door, with Pho Thin more visible now thanks to someone rubbing off the dirt.”
