“kvárium Klub, the surrounding , and the adjacent Deák Square together constitute the largest and perhaps best-known meeting point of downtown Budapest. Thousands of youngsters gather here night after night to chill out in the park or on the steps of the club. Akvárium Klub is more than a simple bar: it is a culture center with a wide musical repertoire from mainstream to underground. There is always a good concert and a smashing exhibition, performance, or other event happening here, in a friendly scene, situated right in the city center. Furthermore, Volt-Lokál found inside brings the atmosphere of the best festivals to Budapest week by week.”

“From panoramic igloos to glass-fronted terraces augmenting Art Nouveau hotels, Budapest has any number of terraces to sip mulled wine in the warmth of indoors while watching the snow fall and Christmas lights tinkle. Some are seasonal additions or conversions to popular alfresco spots in summer, others imaginative creations that have only been unveiled this year. Those operating as extensions to top-notch restaurants can offer fine fare to go with your glass of red, a surprisingly affordable experience particularly if you factor in lunchtime deals as well. Live music is an occasional feature, DJs too.”

“Mika Tivadar Bar was named after Tivadar Mika, one-time iron and copperware factory owner. Mika’s former factory in Kazinczy utca is now home to one of the best new-wave clubs in the city, where the people of the nearby 400 are also returning guests due to the fact that the two clubs have similar air, design, and audience. The excellent wines, the superb music and the all-new interior are all hard to resist. From spring to autumn, the garden of Mika Tivadar also awaits you with delicious dishes, drinks, light paintings and cool music.”

“This long drink club falls in upper-middle category; it is enhanced with a wonderful view to the Buda side, and a careful selection of quality cocktails, paired with an amazing drink assortment and professional mixers. This street bar blends the the expectations of both young and middle-aged people in terms of fun, and offers a more elegant atmosphere rather than a ruin pub feel.”

Restaurante Asiático

“Spíler, located inside the tourist-heavy Gozsdu Courtyard, is one of hottest restaurants in Budapest's buzzing Jewish Quarter. It's a massive space with three, highly-Instagrammable dining rooms that operate at capacity most evenings. The menu features popular international fare (nachos, wings, burgers) alongside Hungarian classics, of which the túróscsusza (€7)—baked noodles topped with cottage cheese, sour cream, and specks of fried pork fat—is the one to go for. Hungarian wines, and almost 30 types of local bottled craft beers are available for pairing. With most dishes below €10, prices are reasonable for the prime location. Tangentially related to Spíler is that its owner, a successful Budapest restaurateur, has been publicly accused of gaining unfair advantage as some of his restaurants benefit from significantly below-market rents. This of course doesn’t detract from Spíler’s worth as a restaurant, but something to keep in mind as you decide where to spend your money.”

“This is a good place to start the night. Cheap drinks and plenty of tables to chill and smoke. There is a popular Hungarian shot called Tatra Tea if you're brave enough to try...ask for the strongest one, you won't regret it.”
