Zoo
“This is where I went for the afternoon after a morning kayak tour at Crystal River. It's a very cute little zoo housing animals in rehabilitation (some of them are "retired," while others are going to be released into the wild when they're healthier.) You get to be fairly close to the animals, especially in the open-space bird area. There are manatees here too, a medium-size lake that you can loop around, an underwater viewing area to see fish, a cute gazebo (great for pictures), and several shows throughout the day where the staffs give educational talks about animals. There are two entrances. One you park and go in. The other you park, and then take a ferry to the zoo. No reservation needed. Hours: 9AM-5:30PM Driving time from Crystal River: 10min Location: 4150 S Suncoast Blvd, Homosassa, FL 34446 Price: $13 per adult”

“Take a drive to Ozello. It's not far from Crystal River at all. Peck's is a favorite seafood restaurant in an old fishing community. The drive there is half the fun. The road travels west off of Hwy 19 and goes through old word Florida. It's a salt marsh estuary loaded with tributaries and a variety of salt marsh plants. Then you get to Peck's and struggle over what dish to order. Order a beer first and take your time.”

“Although Crystal River is about 90 minutes drive, it is well worth the trip to spend half a day on a boat ride and potentially swimming with manatees.”

“If you are coming into Crystal River from the East, specifically Rte 44, you will directly pass this grocery store. I love using Publix for their staff and fresh produce. Please keep in mind, the prices are a little more expensive the closer you get to the water.”

“If you want a steak or a good burger and nice huge house salad, with peanuts to eat and throw the shells on the floor with a full liquor bar & over in the Crystal River Area, after swimming or kayaking with the manatees, then Cody's is a good option. I think Weds they have 2 for the price of 1 steak and/or chicken fajitas. Good place for chicken wings as well. Good variety of food. ”

“Old Mill Tavern is a very popular spot with the locals, including a lot of our neighbors from the RV park. They have really good food and a super festive atmosphere. It’s also the closest place to go out for lunch, dinner or cocktails, so if you happen to have a golf cart you can drive it there!”

Parque
“This is a city run park in town and in a neighborhood. It is very good for young kids because the water is shallow and you can walk in. Please be aware that the water does get deeper and even over your head. Watch the little ones! The park offers kayak launches and picnic tables and grills. Warning: it does get crowded and I avoid the weekends during summer. Winter is good anytime. ”

“This old crab plant and restaurant is located right on Kings Bay in Crystal River. I have seen manatees swim right under the window seating. The Crab Plant is a no frills favorite for fresh seafood. Fresh oysters and clams and even blue crabs by the bucket are available. My mom is 92 and it's her favorite place.”

“Amazing outdoor scene, frequent live music, great food and drinks! Their playground for kids is amazing. You can also drive your boat up from the river and be served from your boat. Very popular with locals and visitors alike, so expect to wait a while for your seat and for food.”
