Quarteirões boêmios, comida e passeio no mercado
Ours will be a cultural excursion set around good food, and architecture — just as any food tour should be! I will first introduce you to two of my favorite neighborhoods: The Armenian Quarter and the Jewish Quarter. This area simply screams Bucharest with its multi-cultural history, amazing hidden gardens, and 19th century eclectic architecture. We'll make several stops on the way, including an achingly cool ruin bar for a Romanian platter with a story to tell. We may suggest some great Romanian Craft beer for you to get alongside this spread or traditional appetizers. And because the best way to know a city is through the belly, we'll hop on a vintage tram and journey to the city's liveliest market: Obor. Well hidden inside a brutal communist neighborhood, surrounded by utopian blocks of flats, this very old market truly feeds the soul and gut of Bucharest. Someone told me once that beer makes history better, that's why we'll start our exploring at the nice people of Terasa Obor to get a few tasty and very famous "mici"- Romania's proud meaty contribution to the world of mouthwatering street-food. Vegetarians will not be disappointed either as local cheeses and fresh vegetables will complete this rustic feast. Other things to note Please let me know of any dietary restrictions at the time of booking. Check up on the meeting point before the tour, or else write or call and please be on time. Don't hold back with your questions:)

Come on over to the dark side...of Bucharest. Travel back in time through stories of a turbulent past and explore the less savory aspects of its history, from the bloody battles fought between Vlad the Impaler and the Ottoman Empire in the Middle Ages, to the "Little Paris" era of the early 20th century, and on to Communist times, undoubtedly one of Romania's darkest chapters. Visit the oldest cemetery in town, a beautiful final resting place with an eclectic collection of funeral monuments ranging from astoundingly beautiful to bewildering, and hear stories that will make your heart melt and your hair curl. Explore a former luxury brothel famous during the golden age of 'Little Paris', and hear stories of famous courtesans who stole the hearts of kings. Find out about our own 'Jack the Ripper', dubbed the 'Vampire of Bucharest', who had a penchant for blonde waitresses and terrorized the city in the early 70s. Finish the adventure in the Revolution Square and learn about the hardships of daily life under one of Eastern Europe's most brutal totalitarian regimes, as well as the struggle of the Romanian people to free themselves from oppression through the Revolution of 1989. In this 3-hour journey, you will learn about the major landmarks and events in the Communist history of Bucharest, the violent beginnings of the Communist regime, the nationalization and forced demolition of thousands of houses, the People's House (currently, the Palace of the Parliament), dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his megalomania, and the bloody anti-Communist revolution of 1989. The experience tells the story of the conflict between two worlds -- a brutalized Bucharest under the Communist regime, and the peaceful and prosperous Bucharest of the interwar period. You will learn about why Bucharest is such a striking mix of very different architectural styles, how each regime has left its mark on the city, how the city looked, and what its inhabitants went through in their daily lives under Communism. You will re-live the emotions of the anti-Communist Revolution and the fall of the Iron Curtain. We'll explore: > Historic Cosbuc and Uranus neighborhoods > Antim Monastery, the Nuns' Convent > The Palace of the Parliament > The former Boulevard of the Victory of Socialism > Former headquarters of Securitate > Revolution Square. Great for groups, as well as for individual travelers.

We meet close to Herastrau Park, in the Press House Square parking. It is a good point to fit our bikes, have a short presentation and start riding. We are visiting Herastrau - the largest garden of the city, then we head south along Victoria Boulevard. We will stop at the Arch of the Triumph, Victoria Square, Revolution Square, Romanian Athaeneum and University Square. Each site has its story and you can take photos. We will continue our trip to the old city center and have a drink on a terrace. Then we are coming back to the starting point, visiting other sites of the city. As we are flexible, we can organize pick up and starting point at your hotel or in another suitable place in the city. Other things to note: Be sure you know how to ride a bicycle. Bring your smile and ask lot of questions, I would be happy to answer.

Contrastes do comunismo em Bucareste (para grupos pequenos)
On this walking tour you will go off the beaten path, into the dark communist history of Romania and experience the contrasts of life and architecture in Bucharest. As a native of Bucharest, with a 10 years’ experience as a local guide at the Palace of Parliament, the most famous project of communism, I consider the communist dictatorship to be one of the most important stories about my hometown. You will start the tour in the Revolution Square, the place where communism ended. You will discover the story of the rise and fall of the Communist Party and the 1989 Revolution. You will then get a chance to use public transportation to move away from the city center. You will stop by the Memorial Cemetery of Heroes of the Revolution and discover the sacrifice of young protesters in 1989. Then, dominating the city from its highest hill, you will discover the Monument of the Heroes for the Freedom of the People, a former tribute to communist leaders. You will finish the tour back in the city center, in the new civic center, Unirii boulevard, built for the communist elites. You will discover the history of demolitions for this massive project, but also stop at one of the churches saved from demolition. Standing outside the gates of the Palace of Parliament, the last whim of supreme leader Nicolae Ceausescu, you will get a final insight into his unparalleled cult of personality.

Bucharest Urbex Tour - Unique view into the capital's past
We will visit 4 locations, if time allows it, in a 6 hour time window in and around Bucharest. These forgotten places from our list will help you understand better the troubled past that the country has gone through in the last few decades, since communism fell. This tour will take us through the rubble and will help create a much deeper understanding, similar to the experience you get from visiting a museum, but much more real. Hundreds of amazing places that used to house workers, provide them entertainment and more importantly work, are now forgotten and abandoned, left to decay. Well, not 100% forgotten, as urban explorers and (sadly) scavengers still visit them sometimes.

Ours will be a cultural excursion set around good food, and architecture — just as any food tour should be! We'll make several stops on the way, including an achingly cool ruin bar for a Romanian platter with a story to tell. We may suggest some great Romanian Craft beer for you to get alongside this spread or traditional appetizers.
