“Not been here for a couple of years but ... steeped in history .. and if thats your "thing" it very good. Museum is full if interesting facts. Colchester is an extremely old town with much history. First recorded Roman town, I believe. Sadly much tarnished now with modern all glass shop fronts ..... but look up. The architecture is fantastic. Elde Lane is a very old street ... worth finding. See if you can find the Trinity Tea Rooms ..? Many carparks, eateries, shops, galleries, etc ”

“Colchester Castle is the largest Norman Keep in Europe. Constructed on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius, built when Colchester was the first Roman capital of Britain, the Castle Museum today reveals many fascinating layers of history to visitors. Visitors can try out some exciting new experiences - try your hand at building a Norman archway, excavating a Roman doctor's grave or steering a chariot around Colchester's recently uncovered Roman Circus! Be wowed as a large scale 'son et lumière' projection transforms the east wall with light and sound. Opening details Monday to Saturday: 10:00 - 17:00 Sunday: 11:00 - 17:00 Castle Park, Colchester, CO1 1TJ Tel: 01206 282939”

“Seafood lovers must - locally famous for it's queues (but worth the wait) to get in as it's based on first come first served, BYO alcohol and bread - they'll do all the cooking of the seafood. Think basic surroundings - with elegant food, they have just recently started taking a small amount of bookings so good luck, you won't be disappointed. ”

“Colchester Castle is a few thousand years old & is steeped in history. A Roman Temple originally stood where the Castle sits today. Then there are the stunning Castle gardens, with their beautiful flower displays, some which celebrate certain events & others that show the dead from various wars are not forgotten. You can visit the Castle inside & enjoy the tour then afterwards explore the Castle gardens, from the flower displays, boating lake, goldfish pond to the wildlife area & the play parks. Enjoy a drink, snack or ice cream from the local on site facilities You can even fetch peanuts for the local squirrel population who do enjoy putting on a display for the visitors. Some are extremely take & will take a peanut from your hand. The Castle & it's gardens I highly recommend you visit as there is something for everyone here.”
