Dear guests and travellers,
Thank you for considering staying with me during your visit to Svalbard. Whatever the purpose of your visit, I think you will enjoy my apartment and its very central location, 5 minutes walk from most places in town. Even though its in the town center, Its still very quiet here with a great view.
I am friendly, easy going and independent with a love for travelling and getting new experiences. I love to meet new people, experience different cultures and share travel stories. I love strange desolate places.
I have been here for many years and have spent many winters here. I have seen polar bears, walruses, seals, foxes, reindeers and many migratory birds. I have seen many hours of northern lights and they always are a spectacular experience. I look forward to welcoming you to Svalbard and share this magical experience of living so high up in the north!
I have been hosting for many years and I love it. Its always been a positive and a learning experience, both for my guests and for me. I have travelled quite a bit and enjoy having the world come to me. Questions about my apartment, or my town are welcome. I love meeting travellers, so here are the two listings on offer in my apartment:
1. "Safe cozy private room in town center, sea view"
2. "Cozy corner in town center for the solo traveller"
***********Information on outdoor trips ***********
Dog sledding trips, hiking trips, snowmobile trips and boat trips to Barentsburg/ Pyramiden are very popular, depending on weather conditions. I had some guests over in October and their wish was granted when the whole town turned all white overnight. They had rented a car here so they went on drives around town and outside town and they were rewarded by some spectacular northern lights show that lasted for over a half hour!!
For renting a car, search on the internet for Arctic Autorent AS. If you are looking for bus trips around in town with meals served onboard, search for Arctic Tapas. Its a restaurant on wheels :)
Great time to go on hikes too. Please search on the internet these tour companies and what all they offer: Visit Svalbard, svalbard booking, Henningsen Transport And Guiding, Basecamp Explorer, Svalbard Husky, Better Moments, Arctic Tapas, Spitsbergen Outdoor Activities
****************Visiting during winter*****************
Winter time is the nicest time of the year! Its very very cozy!! :) For those concerned about the 24 hour darkness during the polar winter and its health effects, you will be fine. There are some locals who have lived here for decades and they are just as healthy as you are!
And if you are concerned on how cold can it get during winter, well that is anybody's guess. It can be cold or warm. It does not get very cold in or around town. It can even rain at times during winter! Its not bad. Its not Siberia. More than the cold, its the wind and the ice that you must keep in mind. Just make sure you have windproof clothing and ice grippers when you visit. If you are mentally strong enough and have enough clothing and gear, you can definitely survive a polar winter and enjoy it.
I love the dark winters here! It is a once in a lifetime experience and is something you must experience! The beauty of the dancing northern lights in this tranquil serenity is an experience that words cannot describe, it can only be seen and experienced by being here. And just when you think there is no one around you, you might come across a reindeer or an arctic fox, bathed in the glow of the reflected moonlight from the snow covered mountains.
