I was a graduate student and instructor of Portuguese & Brazilian Studies at Tulane University, New Orleans, for 7 years, where my job basically was introducing young Americans to Brazilian culture and customs.Now, as a full-time writer, renting out my apartament for a few days a month is the perfect way to both meet cool people from all over the world and supplement my income. (You can see some of my books on the photos. Just search my name to find out more.)This is actually my very own home, where I really, really live. So, feel free to browse my books but don't take any. :) If you plan on "living la vida loca" in Rio (parties, drugs and hookers), please go to a hotel. Don't thrash my place. Please.While you're here, I'll be staying with my girlfriend a few subway stations away, and I'll be personally available if you have questions or need help in any way.Coming back home from the US was the best thing I've ever done. Rio is going through its best moment in 80 years. It's great to be here. You'll enjoy it too.
What more can I say about Copacabana? Copacabana itself (nicknamed "Copa") is probably more famous than all Brazilians cities but Rio. Any product or service human beings have ever produced or offered can be obtained in Copacabana. This is not always a good thing, but that's the way it is. This is a cultural, vibrant, powerful neighborhood. Sincerely? I chose to live in Copacabana because it's one of the most awesome places in the world. (And I was living in New Orleans before that!)

The General Osório subway station is right across the street, along with a Bike Rio location. You can buy a monthly pass for unbelievable 5 dollars and take and leave bikes at more than 60 locations around town. Rio has more than 300km (190mi) of bike lanes and is an eminently bikable town.Copacabana and Ipanema are also very flat and walkable, and there are buses that will take you anywhere in town.(My advice: take the subway. It's cheap, safe, easy to figure out.)

* * *
After 7 years in New Orleans, I'm back to my native Rio.
I'm a (struggling) professional writer.
Renting out my place for a few days a month to foreign tourists is my way of meeting interesting new people and making ends meet.
During your stay, I'll be at my girlfriend's, so please take good care of my house, it's the only one I've got. :)
