Scotland's National Book Town is in the most beautiful part of Scotland: Galloway. The setting for many literary classics, like The 39 Steps, beauty, history and adventure await you! Sea, ancient woodlands, crumbling castles, a whisky distillery, 7 Stains Cycle Trails, nature preserves, farms, the Southern Upland Way, Scotland's Art Town, Food Town and the home of Burns are just on your doorstep...public transport and bicycles will get you so far, but a car is strongly recommended.
Interação com os hóspedes
The Open Book has a team of volunteers who want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Someone will be here to meet/greet you. Otherwise, the rest is up to you. We are a friendly community, many residents have had a busy time joining local families for dinner or gatherings at the pub, other residents spend the holiday in the cozy apartment upstairs and out exploring.
We encourage you to read up on Wigtown, Galloway and prepare for your visit, for there's lots to see here. Though there are buses, and bicycles, a car is strongly recommended and can be rented near Carlisle if you're coming by train, or Prestwick or Glasgow Airport. We offer you the bookshop, apartment and orientation. All the rest for your bookshop holiday is up to you. Please note that this is not a volunteer opportunity, nor are we paying you to work. This is a holiday that you are paying for, classified under cultural tourism and you can enjoy the bookshop as you wish. It is the sole responsibility of the resident to ensure that they adhere to any visa requirements or similar regulations.
During the period of your bookshop holiday, we encourage you to blog regularly about the experience. All the residents have in the past and we'd like to continue the tradition! A blog has been set up at (website hidden) to which you will be given access for the period of your residency. The blog will be monitored by the project manager.
