O espaço
A typically Swedish cottage in red and white. Big garden with lots of plants, fruit trees and hammocks between the apple trees. The cottage is situated 1,5 kilometres from a lovely beach in Vänern! The area around the cottage is called Kinnekulle and it's known for it's scenery, oak trees, pastures and colours. Just across the road of my cottage there's a big field where some cows usually graze during the summer. It makes the idyllic more complete!

The house:
Newly rebuilt! The bathroom, bedrooms and loft are all newly-built. The kitchen is totally refurbished.
1 bedroom - sleeps 2
1 bedroom - sleeps 1-2
the loft - sleeps 2
a living room with an iron stove - sleeps 1 (sofa)
a kitchen with all utensils, pots and pans that you could possibly want or need

15 kilometres to the town of Lidköping where there's a market each Wednesday and Saturday. Lots of cafes and shops. A hiking trail of 43 kilometres is just a few minutes away from the cottage. A newly open absolutely amazing cafe is available 15 minutes walk from the coffee. Head north on the tarmac road until you find the cafe on your right.

The cottage is my paradise! But since I mostly live in Stockholm I spend only some weekends during the spring and some weeks during the summer at the cottage. Therefore I'd love to share this paradise with travellers who can rent the whole place when I'm not there.

Arrival by train? The nearest train stop is Blomberg which is a 8 minute walk from the house. The trains connect, to the north east - Mariestad, Hallsberg and Stockholm to the south west - Lidköping and Göteborg.

The cottage is a two-hour-drive from Gothenburg.

Hiking
The Kinnekulle hiking trail begins just off the cottage. It’s easily accessed from the Blomberg train station. It's a 42kms hiking trail that will take you to oak paddocks, orchid fields, beaches, woods, old caves, fields where cows graze. It's a very varied walk. If you want, you can bring sleeping bags and spend a night in one of the sleeping shelters around the trail. There is a map in this pile of info material showing the trail.

I also suggest random walks on the small roads in the area. Explore the fields, the paddocks, the water, the estates.

Shopping
For grocery shopping you need to take the train (or car) to Lidköping where you will find four really big grocery stores, Coop at Änghagen, Ica in Margretelund, Hemköp in the centre of town and finally Ica at Framnäs. However, there is a small petrol station/post office/kiosk/grocery store 3,5 kms from the cottage where you can find the essentials. A proper countryside place! Just follow the road to the right until you arrive in Källby.

Lidköping is also an excellent place to visit to have a great cup of coffee and cakes. I really like the Rörstrand café where you can first have a cake and then buy some great pieces of china before you leave town. I am a huge fan of the café Bella Mi, Grevhusgatan. Excellent selection of cakes. The local ice cream Klings glass can be bought in the town square. Lidköping is full of excellent cafes, quirky shops and good food. Well worth a visit!

Second hand shopping
If you're into old things this region is great! There's a second hand shop in Götene called Kyrkornas second hand (The churches' second hand). Brilliant things. Excellent prices! Open Wednesday to Saturday. Götene is 14kms away. In Lidköping there are two good places, FA-fyndet just next to the Statoil roundabout near Änghagen and PK Second hand near the town square. In the neighbouring town Skara there are three good shops, one opposite the grocery store Coop Forum called Hjälp att Hjälpa (Help to Help), one near Hötorget and one near the church.

The beach
Follow the road back towards the station, cross the tracks, and turn right. When the path leads you to a tarmac road turn left down the hill. Turn right (I think there's a sign with a swimmer on it there), first left (there is a sign), you will pass some parked cars. Continue walking until you find the beach.

If you prefer some quiet rocks to sunbathe on, pass the tiny sandy beach on your right, and there you'll find a small path (the one to the left) that leads towards the tiny woods. Follow that route. You will find two footbridges along the way to the rocks. The walk takes a few minutes and it's really worth it!

Café
There's a rather newly opened excellent café opened in the area. They serve soup for lunch, and also all sorts of cakes, bread. And of course you can find the very Swedish cinnamon bun there! Their vanilla bun is also absolutely splendid. My favourite actually. They open at 10 so if you eat breakfast late you can go there and buy fresh bread.

The café is a 15 minute-walk from the cottage further north. You walk on the tarmac road towards the station, but you stay on the tarmac road as it winds along the fields. You will pass a grey house on your right, then five rather big houses to the right up the hill, and then the café is situated in a red big former barn. To the right.

Cayaks
If you go to Läckö on Kållandsö there are kayaks for rent.

Other sights
- Hällekis estate and an orangerie where you can have a nice lunch in the garden.
- Råbäck and Munkängarna. An old forest with open areas and a reminder of old times.
- Lasse i Berget (Lasse in the cave). A few kilometre-walk from the cottage there's a cave where an odd man lived with his wife last century.
- Österplana hed. An area with a huge variety of flowers.
- Munkängarna. Meadows, near Råbäck, with huge old trees, a serene environment.
- Husaby church. A church from the 12th century a few kilometres from the cottage. It’s open and free of charge. There’s an audio guide on the wall to the right inside the church. Choose a language and press the button and then you will enjoy an educational visit to the church. Next to the church there’s a café in the garden.
- Hastings church. Not to be confused with Hastings in England. Go towards the train station. Walk north, along side the railroad on Norra Kleven. Follow the orange sticks, into the cow field, walk until there’s an information sign. There, don’t follow the orange sticks, instead, walk ahead and follow the blue signs until you see the water, and a huge cross.

But what I prefer the most is sitting in the garden listening to the birds, admiring the light and perhaps eating a cherry or two.

The nearest train station is Blomberg. There is a timetable for the trains on the living room table. You don't need to buy tickets in advanced, you can easily buy tickets on the train.

A huge fan of travelling, languages and food. And meeting new people. That's me. In brief. I work as a teacher at upper secondary school where I teach English and political science. Other miscellaneous facts: Am brilliant at baking bread! Am a huge fan of Yorkshire Gold Tea but struggle with Marmite. Love visiting grocery stores when I'm in foreign countries and enjoy trying unknown foods and things. Have a daughter born in March 2017 and a son born in August 2019.
