Berges is an old marble-cuttting and polishing mill 1 km. from the ancient village of Caunes-Minervois and its restored abbey, established by Charlemagne in 791. The abbey is now a center for the arts, particularly for sculpture of the local rose-colored marble.
We have 4 apartments on 1.5 hectares along a small river, surrounded on both sides by communal forests great for hiking.
Eglantine is one of the two 1-bedroom apartments; the other two are 2-bedroom units. The bedroom has a standard double bed and there is sofabed in the salon. There is a summer kitchen with barbecue, refrigerator and dishwasher next to the front lawn and a 15x5 meter swimming pool. There is also a trampoline for the kids.
The land has fruit and olive trees as well as a rose garden and open space. Caunes is 25 minutes from Carcassonne, the largest walled city in Europe, and about an hour from the wide sandy beaches of the Mediterranean. The Minervois---in fact, all of Languedoc, is wine country settled by the Romans more than 2000 years ago
