O espaço
Casale Sonnino has welcomed travelers with warm hospitality for over 35 years. Check out our 40 + amazing 5-star reviews on Homeaway and Tripadvisor.

The Casale sleeps 4 to 10 people (12 have fit in a pinch) in 4 bedrooms, 1 terrace room, 1 study upstairs and 1 small bedroom on the ground floor. There are 3 full baths (all renovated) - 2 upstairs, 1 downstairs. The Villa is perfect for ladies getaways, families, reunions of friends and couples. Milestone birthdays and celebrations are our specialty.

Breakfast and housekeeping is included with the rent. Make the Casale your home away from home while you tour around Rome and Central Italy - but you'll have none of the clean-up worries! You'll wake up to the aroma of fresh Italian coffee and your continental breakfast laid out. When you come back from a busy day, the kitchen and baths are cleaned and the beds are made. All you need to do is pour yourself a glass of wine, bring it up to the terrace and inhale the amazing view of the sunset over Rome and the sparkling panorama stretching from the sea to the Apennine mountains.

Breakfast might be in the kitchen, in the small salon with the southern light bouncing off the vineyard streaming in, at the long renaissance refectory table in the living room or outside in the fresh air under the pergola with grapes hanging overhead.

Built over 300 years ago, the Casale Sonnino sits on a hilltop that once belonged to the Roman Senator Caius Julius Cornutus Tertullus in 100 AD. Over the years, we have found many Roman artifacts that have been incorporated into garden or the house. There is a mill in the living room and on the upper terrace, pieces of a garden wall, decorative molding and a doorframe. In the basement, you can see the ancient villa's cistern with the original 2000 year-old stucco, an impressive arched foundation wall with "opus reticulatum", stonework typical of the Republican period. Below the well is the entrance to a labyrinth of caves stretching below the vineyards. We believe that they date to the 1200’s when they were excavated for their pozzolana, a volcanic gravel useful for building materials.

Acesso do hóspede
Your space includes the upstairs bedroom level with grand terrace with seating, ping-pong table and fantastic views. Also included is the entire ground floor living and dining areas, dining supplies such as tablecloths, flatware, dishes; foosball table, fully-equipped Kitchen.

The owner might use the kitchen sparingly and only when guests are out.

Outside, guests have use of the Garden and seating area under the Pergola. Guests will have their own buzzer to the gate, a key to the house and space to park their car.

Not included in your stay is the farm office on the side of the kitchen and the area underneath the house. The farm office has a separate entrance.

Outras observações
Although this is an "Instant Booking" property, please contact the host first and let us know what brings you to the area and the makeup of your group. We would like to get to know you to ensure that the Casale Sonnino is the right place to stay for your group. A rental car is necessary and we can recommend a very good car rental company. Our location is 5 minutes from the Monte Porzio Catone exit of highway A1 Rome - Naples, so day trips are easy to plan.

The Casale Sonnino can be rented for periods of 4 days or more. Since there is so much to see and do in the Rome area, generally it is rented by the week and the weeks run Saturday to Saturday but we might be able to be flexible. Please ask about your dates before you book.

The Casale Sonnino and the surrounding property is a working vineyard and olive groves, so farm and garden work will be happening year around and according to the season. Staff, friends or visitors will be coming and going but they will be outside or come into the office which has a separate entrance and possibly use the kitchen with the owner. No one will go upstairs except the housekeeper upon request. Please let us know if want her to clean your suite during your stay and not just at the end after you leave.

There is a friendly dog (Dylan) and cat (Mr. Chips) on the premises. They are outdoor animals but they will approach guests for attention. We hope that you like animals!

There is a washer & dryer in the downstairs bathroom. They (especially the dryer) require a lot of energy so we do not let the guests use them. HOWEVER, our housekeeper can run a load and hang dry your clothes and iron as well. This would be an added charge.

The rent includes daily continental breakfast, housekeeping, most utilities except for heat, wifi access, use of the kitchen, house and garden. Heat is extra based upon consumption and market rate of heating oil.

Phone conversation (often several) and a signed lease and release of responsibility waiver directly with the owner is required with the booking/payment through airbnb. Rent is payable in US Dollars.

The owner will ask for your direct phone number, email and home mailing address right after payment of funds to Airbnb, so that we may follow up with the lease and also to ensure you have an outstanding experience when you stay at the Casale.

Localização

Monte Porzio Catone, Rome, Itália

To be sure, the proximity of Rome is a major draw, however our guests like to spend time and go to restaurants in our little towns of Monte Porzio, Colonna, and Frascati. Local is best! We’ll share our favorites: little local pizza and focaccia stores, family-run restaurants serving up Roman favorites, burgers and beer and inspired new cuisine, serpette and ciambelle (crunchy cookies great for dipping in coffee), bakeries, gelato stops (zabaglione, pistachio, marrone glace…), green markets on weekend mornings, home-made cheese shops and more. The cappuccino is great at just about any bar, but there is a new establishment with all kinds of pastries and outside service on the main church square in Frascati. Great for people watching!

Other favorite nearby places: Tusculuum, Villa d'Este and Tivoli Gardens, Hadrian's Villa, Ostia Antica, Nemi, Grottaferrata, Castel Gandolfo and Lago Albano.

My brother George and I are 5th generation owners and we just can't let go of our rich family history and the wonderful extra virgin olive oil that our mother, a fantastic cook and all around Renaissance woman, passed on to us. We continue to cultivate grapes and wholesale our crop to a local producer of Frascati Superiore wine and I import the entire production of our own extra virgin olive oil to the US. As we have learned from our many appreciative guests, a unique legacy is meant to be treasured and shared. Though our property is down to 25 acres from the original 200 owned by our great, great uncles, the Casale remains a haven from the frenetic pace of our high-tech lifestyle (though we do have wifi!). We are delighted to welcome guests from all over the world who find the idea of staying in the formal, but bucolic setting of our working farm appealing. At the Casale, it is easy to suspend your everyday routine and reconnect at a place where the talk of history, art, food and wine flows freely. George manages the vineyard/olive grove operations and hospitality at the Casale Sonnino, near Rome and I manage the marketing, book guests, sell olive oil - here at my home on Long Island, NY, USA. We have been renting for over thirty years and have hosted guests from all over the US and many countries including Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, England, Germany, Madagascar and even Azerbaijan. My life's motto: When life gives you lemons, make...olive oil!

One of the owners, George, lives in Italy on site in an apartment beneath the Casale. He uses the office on the side of the kitchen and he is happy to help with restaurant recommendations and touring ideas.

The Casale Sonnino is a small family-owned working vineyard and olive grove and as such, there are generally farm (outside) and housekeeping staff (inside) around in the mornings until 12:30. You will have complete privacy, as the housekeepers wait until you have left

Your host will be as involved or not involved as you want him to be. He can help with day trip ideas, make restaurant reservations, make copies or send a fax, share the local history or as the many rave reviews suggest, be terrific company. However, you do have to grab him when he’s in the office as he is a busy guy and is often out.
