An architectural treasure, the high-ceilinged and classic Federal Style Samuel Read Hall House nestles in 60 green rolling acres of the Brownington Historic District in Vermont's fabled Northeast Kingdom near Lake Willoughby. Lovingly restored by Vermont Preservation Trust, a gracious parlor floor with 4 sitting rooms leads upstairs to bedrooms fitted with modern comforts, top-line mattresses, all-cotton sheets, lovely quilts and cosy duvets, along with some wonderful antique furnishings.

O espaço
Part of the Old Stone House Village Museum, highlighted in Antiques magazine, this was the former residence of a prosperous educator, inventor of the blackboard and eraser and the first teacher-training course in America. The charming period wallpaper was chosen by a former owner with ties to the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The remodeled bathrooms (one on the bedroom floor with clawfoot tub, one on the parlor floor with a shower, all with pristine 100% cotton towels), and the kitchen nod to modern convenience, while each bedroom, different and unique, has new hotel-quality mattresses and fine all-cotton linens along with a few historic objects that hark to Vermont's storied past as a refuge of rebels and idealists, independents and adventurers and tough, honest, and tolerant folk. The Birch room with cool white and gray tones has a pencil bed with a full mattress, as well as floor-length beveled swivel mirror (that makes it a favorite of brides before their wedding night (and the happy night after.)) The Oak room has an ample queen bed in a beautiful Victorian bedstead, with rose and teal flowered walls and a comfortable rocking chair for reading and relaxing. The large Spruce room with its cheerful gold and green striped pattern is the choice of families with children, with two queen beds and charming accessories. On the parlor floor, the handsome dining room seats 8, while both living room and library offer a number of convivial spaces to sit and relax with friends and loved ones. Beyond the old-time kitchen (preserved for the museum with its wide hearth and hand-hewn pine floorboards adjacent to the new modern kitchen, is a lovely outdoor veranda with canopy and porch furnishings and spectacular views out 80 miles over the green hills of Vermont into Canada. Join in the activities of the Old Stone House Museum, walk around the grounds or be inspired by a binder of suggestions (for all ages and interests) that await your visit. Come and enjoy the tranquility of this unique place where in the words of the poet, "peace comes dropping slow" and the world and its concerns seem far far away...You will leave refreshed and restored.

Onde você estará

Brownington, Vermont, Estados Unidos

This is a magnet area for all Vermonters, and indeed a pristine fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing, biking and mountain biking destination for many worldwide. ( To say nothing of our winter wonderland, filled as it is with skiing, Alpine and Nordic both, ice climbing, skiddooing, skating, and curling.)With the most beautiful lakes and mountains all around, there is much resplendent nature to enjoy. The Northeast Kingdom is also becoming a rich farm to table culture, with amazing cheeses and microbreweries abundant.
It's also a place the time seems to stand still in, so the simple honest charms of a world gone by are here in abundance.
