Omapere, the jewel of the North on the mighty Hokianga Harbour with Opononi 2 mins drive away.

Our place is more than a place to stop for the night. it's a destination with the best beach in New Zealand right at your front door.

Its all here.......
Sun, sand, sand dunes, snapper, swimming, hand feeding the fish in the freshwater stream, kayak in the stream or ocean, refresh under the solar powered warm outdoor shower - its all here in the mighty Hokianga Harbour, the jewel of Northland.

Just a three hour drive north of Auckland on State Highway 12, the giant kauri trees of the Waipoua Kauri Forest act as sentinels for the undiscovered jewel of Northland's west coast, the historic Hokianga Harbour.

Known also as 'Te Kohanga o Te Tai Tokerau', the nest of the northern tribes as most Maori trace their ancestry to the discovery and settlement of this harbour, making it indeed the birthplace of the Nation.
maintained tracks give access to the well known giants like 1400 year old Tane Mahuta and 2000 year Te Matua Ngahere, also many other forest walks including Yakas Track, Lookout walk and the Waiotemarama kauri and waterfall walks. Then discover several fabulous coastal walks including the Signal Station walk, with awesome sand dune views.

Many quaint villages dot the Hokianga including the twin settlement of Omapere and Opononi made famous in 1955-56 by Opo the dolphin.

Trips to 300 metre high sand dunes depart from the Opononi wharf.

Rawene, New Zealand's third oldest European settlement has historic Clendon House to visit as well as the recently completed mangrove walk.

Kohukohu, is an historic timber mill town, while second oldest European settlement

Horeke was an historic ship building town. Nearby Mangungu Mission House is the site of the second signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

There is plenty to explore including amazing walks, cycle tracks, complimentary kayaks, boogie boarding down the Hoikianga sand dunes. We are 20 mins drive to the largest Kauri tree in the world - Tane Mahuta.

Close by are cafes, restaurants, fresh pizzas, fish and chips, and a well stocked 4 square supermarket.

Walking distance to the Hokianga Heads Hotel (Copthorne) for drinks or a meal.

Step back in time where you have space to breathe and strangers stop and say hello to you on the street.

Even at the peak of summer you would be lucky to see a single person on the beach in front of you.

Here is some feedback this month from our guests from Whangarei

Just a short message to say a massive thankyou for a perfect holiday. I have not felt this relaxed for many years. Thankyou for being so quick in your replies to my many annoying questions . I have been on many a holiday & had fun but never have I been brought to tears on leaving like I was this morning when it was time to go. From the bottom of my heart - thankyou
Karen

It's like your own private beach and piece of paradise. Seriously

“We had an incredible stay thank you - the house and location were incredible. We loved feeding the fish by hand in the stream, went kayaking, and managed to catch a decent snapper straight out in front of the house for lunch the next day.
We would love to come back if we get the chance. Thank you again.”

Final Thought:

On the way out from Omapere make sure you visit the amazing fresh water Kaiiwi Lakes on your way to Dargaville.
