The apartment occupies the upper level of our home that is nestled among mature hardwoods and towering pine trees, yet only a minute from Business 40. A circular drive leads you to the front porch and entry door. There is more than ample off street parking.
After you enter the marble tiled foyer, you will find the door to the apartment on the right. Take a moment to check out my mother-in-law's needlework displayed in the foyer. A wide staircase takes you up to the apartment that is flooded with natural light.
At the top of the stairs, you'll find an open concept living area that includes a large sofa, two comfortable chairs, and a 50" HDTV with cable TV. The full kitchen that was recently renovated and features granite counters and new appliances. The kitchen has an island with a bar with sitting for three. There is a separate dining area with a table and 3 chairs. The kitchen has all of the expected appliances (oven, range, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, etc.) and is well stocked with cooking and dining utensils and a coffee maker and toaster. Two large dormers overlook the landscaped grounds and fill the apartment with natural light, as do three solar tubes.
Heading back towards the bedrooms, you will find a large desk with a Mac Pro desktop computer for our guests' use. The apartment not only has
fast WiFi but there are also Ethernet connections at the desk and in both bedrooms.
A hallway leads your from the living area back to the two large bedrooms. The first bedroom on the left has a queen bed and a private bathroom, which is across the hall. Another larger dormer and a solar tube provide natural light.
At the end of the hall is the second bedroom, which also has a queen bed and two skylights. The second bedroom has a large walk-in closed and an en-suite bathroom with a jetted tub.
You will also have access to our extensive gardens and outdoor living spaces. You will undoubtedly enjoy the breezeway between the garage and the main house. It has two rockers and separate seating area. It's always shaded and usually breezy. Off the back of the breezeway is a Japanese style garden, with a small "pond" and a water feature. The soothing sounds of running water can be heard in the breezeway and most of the backyard. Down a few steps from the Japanese garden is large brick patio with another seating area, which overlooks two recently built rock-wall gardens, a rock stairway and pathway.
Just outside the gate to the backyard is an herb garden and several tomato plants, which you are welcome to use.

You will have exclusive access to the apartment, which occupies the entire upper level. You will also have access to any of our many outdoor living spaces and extensive gardens, which are shared spaces. You also are welcome to use our laundry room. Just ask. It's on the main level. The rest of the space is our private living quarters.

This is our home and we live here with our two dogs, Della, a six-year old Beagle-Bassett mix, and Riva, three-year old Yellow Lab mix. They are both rescues. (The dogs do not have access to the apartment.)
Chris does not work outside the home, but has an active schedule, so comes and goes frequently throughout the day.
Jeff has a full time law practice and is generally at home during the evenings and weekends.
We are both available to answer questions or provide assistance in any way.
This apartment is particularly well suited for business travelers because of it's quiet yet super convenient in-town location. It also works well for one or two single travelers, one or two couples, or small families, visiting one of the many attractions downtown, one of our local colleges, or the wineries in the Yadkin River Valley.
Please note that we have two dogs that are quiet and very friendly. The dogs do not have access to the apartment. You will likely encounter them, however, if you access the outdoor spaces in the fenced, backyard. If you have pet allergies, please let us know and we will take extra steps to ensure your comfort.
Pricing Note: If your party consist of two (2) persons and both bedrooms will be occupied, then you will incur the $25/night extra charge.
No smoking or vaping (tobacco or otherwise) anywhere in the Apartment or elsewhere on the Property, inside or outside.
This is a material term of the agreement and will be strictly enforced. If there is evidence of smoking in the Apartment or on the Property by any member of the Booking Guest’s party:
Booking Guest and/or the Booking Guest’s Party agrees to immediately vacate the Apartment and the Property, if request by Hosts;
Booking Guest agrees that no booking fees will be refunded;
Booking Guest agrees to be responsible for a Smoking Cleaning Fee, which includes all fees and expenses associated with cleaning, and removing odors and stains from carpets, rugs, towels, drapes, upholstered furniture, etc.;
Booking Guest agrees to pay a $250 Smoking Non-compliance Fee; and
Booking Guest agrees that the entire security deposit can be withheld to pay the Smoking Cleaning Fee and/or the Smoking Non-compliance Fee.

QUIET HOURS: Please observe quiet hours from 11PM to 8AM.
BOOKING GUEST RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Booking Guest is the person verified by Airbnb and booking the Apartment. The Booking Guest must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age at the time of booking.
The Booking Guest shall identify, at the time of booking, the name and address of all Authorized Guests.
The Booking Guest must be physically present at check-in and must present a valid drivers license with a photo.
The Booking Guest agrees limit access to the Apartment and the Property to Authorized Guests, and shall not invite or otherwise allow any other person to access the Apartment or the Property
The Booking Guest is responsible for ensuring that all Authorized Guests understand and comply with the House Rules, and agrees to take all reasonable steps to ensure such compliance of House Rules.
The Booking Guest also assumes all responsibility for all acts and omissions of the Booking Guest Party, and agrees to reimburse Host for all damages, losses, theft, etc. caused, directly or indirectly, by any member of the Booking Guest Party. Booking Guest further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Host from any and all claims, causes of actions, etc. by any third party resulting, directly or indirectly, from any acts or omissions by any member of the Booking Guest Party
The maximum number of Authorized Guests is four (4) persons, including the Booking Guest, two (2) persons in each of the two bedrooms.
All Authorized Guests must be identified by name and address by the Booking Guest at the time of booking. The Booking Guest agrees to pay all booking fees for all Authorized Guests, regardless of whether the person was previously identified as an Overnight Guest.
If an Unauthorized Guest spends a night at the Apartment, the Booking Guest:
agrees to pay the posted additional per person per night fee(s) for each Unauthorized Guest; and
agrees to pay an Unauthorized Guest Fee of $50.00 for each Unauthorized Guest.
VISITORS: No visitors unless. Only the the Booking Guest and member of the Booking Guest’s Party shall be give access to the Apartment and the Property.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: The maximum occupancy of the apartment at any time is four (4) persons, inclusive of the Booking Guest and Authorized Guests. This is not the place for a party. This is the place for a quiet place to rest after the party.
CHECK-IN TIME: You can check-in between 4:00PM and 10:00PM.
CHECK-OUT TIME: Check-out time is 10:00AM. Before departure, please follow the check-out instructions, which are available in the Welcome Book and posted at the Apartment.
PROFILE PICTURE: The Booking Guest should upload, or otherwise provide, a profile picture so that we can identify you by sight. This is how we ensure that we let you in and not a stranger.
PARKING: We have plenty of room for parking, particularly, at the end of the driveway, toward the right. You also can park in the circle drive in front of the house. Just make sure you park between the two sidewalks and to the right so that you don’t block other vehicles from using the circle drive.
You are welcome to use anything in the apartments’ kitchen, including, the refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, cookware, utensils, microwave, glassware and dishes.
Please use the exhaust fan when cooking.
Please clean up after yourself.
No deep frying, please.
NO EATING IN YOUR ROOM: If you intend to eat at the apartment, please sit down at the bar or table in the kitchen area. instead of eating in your room.
NO CANDLES or other open flames in the Apartment or anywhere on the Property.
SECURITY: Please lock the front door whenever you enter or leave the Apartment.
COMMON AREAS AND PRIVATE AREAS: You will have exclusive use of the apartment. We respect your privacy and will only enter the apartment upon your request or in the event of an emergency. With the exception of the entry foyer, the lower levels of the house are our private living quarters. Please respect our privacy. You are welcome to use any of the outdoor spaces, including the breezeway, the patios in the backyard or any of the outdoor seating areas.
LEAVE BEHIND WHAT YOU DON'T USE: We'll do our best to anticipate what you may need by way of extra towels, blankets or such. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap are available while you are staying with us along with some other spiffs and we expect you to leave behind what you don't use during your stay. If you don't see what you need, please ask. Please leave the Property in the same condition as you found it.
Apartment - the upper level of the Property, as described in Airbnb Listing No. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
Booking Guest - the person verified by Airbnb and booking the Apartment.
Booking Guest Party - the Booking Guest, all Authorized Guests and Invitees.
Authorized Guest - a person, other than the Booking Guest, identified by the Booking Guest that will be spending one or more nights in the Apartment.
Host - Jeff McFadden and/or Chris McFadden
Invitee - any person invited to the Apartment and/or the Property by the Booking Guest or an Authorized Guest.
Property - 314 Buckingham Road, Winston-Salem NC 27104.
Unauthorized Guest - a person that accesses and/or spends a night in the Apartment but is not an Authorized Guest.
My wife, Chris, and I met at Wake Forest in the fall of 1977. We both graduated from Wake, and moved to the Washington DC area for law school and nursing school. We got married in 1984, and after an 8-year frolic and detour in Washington, we returned to Winston-Salem to raise a family.
Our children are in their late 20's and are more or less launched. So we now have an abundance of space in our sprawling, mid-century ranch home that is largely unoccupied. We are also avid outdoor gardeners and hope to attract guests that share that interest.
We have been lucky enough to have travelled extensively, and we have always enjoyed the more personal experience you get from an direct owner rental and staying in someone's home. We look forward to sharing our home and gardens with visitors to Winston-Salem, especially, those visiting any of the local colleges and universities* or the High Point Furniture Market.
