I quote from Amy's review:
"Our stay was Ok we where a bit annoyed he sent us a message when we first arrived telling us to turn off the aircon when we went to the shop. " I think this speaks for itself about Amy's attitude to staying in someone's private home which is not in line with Airbnb community standards (this was her first Airbnb experience).
I would like to put things into place:
There were no complaints from Amy for the 11 days she stayed in my home. The place was given to her group spotless, as I always leave it (please search GUYAPSS12 on Youtube to see the entry condition report video. I always take one and datestamp it). Safety is important to me and there are no 'nails' coming out of the floor or the deck... I have double checked after reading the review.
As for the message - I was staying in the other unit for a night to do some wall and ceiling painting, cleaning and upgrades. Amy's kids were running upstairs, screaming and jumping which was so powerful it rattled my ceiling (!!). In the many years I rent the upstairs unit I have NEVER heard such noise, it's very well insulated with hi quality noise insulation components in the ceiling/floor. Nevertheless, I have decided not to say anything as I didn't want to upset them in any way and given that I was leaving in the evening, so it didn't impact me and there were no guests arriving. I accept some guests are noisier than others but I was still worried about potential guests coming to the other unit and complaining.
After they have left for the day (NOT 'to the shops'... sounds like they went to the 7/11 for 5 minutes but I was there and they didn't return - I left the unit 5 hours after), I have noticed while going outside that 3 our of the 4 aircon units were left on. There were indications the TV and some lights were on as well (I never intrude the privacy of my guests while they are already checked in but I could see from the street).
I have then decided to remind them to be respectful.. and sent a VERY polite message requesting them to turn off appliances when they leave, and decided to mention to also not jump and run upstairs if they notice there are guests downstairs. I also reminded them that if they need ANYTHING or have questions they can contact me, to leave it with a positive tone. I have received no reply.
I will continue to hope for responsible, mature and positive guests and continue to be the best host I can for them. First time Airbnb guests: Please don't hesitate to contact me or your host in any listing if ANYTHING is bothering you, I know that I will do all I can to make my guests happy and so will most hosts. But also remember to treat your temporary home as you would your own.
