Jaroslava’s house was well situated to get access to the forest trails. We arrived Friday night and left Saturday morning for a long hike to some castle ruins deep in the forest. Unfortunately while we were away there was a sudden thunderstorm which rained in through the partially open roof windows and flooded some of the rooms. Jaroslava was level headed about the situation and we put it down to an act of god. That night one of my fellow guests put some dirty clothes through the washing machine and when we woke up the house had flooded again! It appears that there was something wrong with the washing machine so hopefully that will be fixed, removed or have a note placed onto it. The only problem we really had with the hosting throughout the stay was when Jaroslava’s mother let herself in while we were asleep after the washing machine had leaked on the floor. She was very angry and continued to shout at us for ages in Slovakian while we mopped up the water from the washing machine. No one understood what she was saying and it was a very awkward experience. Apart from the unexpected two floodings and severe telling off in a foreign language, I believe that this could be a good accommodation for people that want a hiking base-camp in the suburbs.
We really like the location as it was super convenient for our travels. The rooms were roomy, clean, and fresh. The kitchen was tiny and very basic with limited supplies/utensils, but adequate for what we were looking for. The kitchen was not really set up for cooking meals but worked fine for simple breakfasts and sandwich lunches. The neighborhood was nice, safe, and quiet, the coffee shop below was excellent, and Jaroslava was very friendly and accommodating. There was always room for on street parking and it was not far from a grocery store, some little shops, and the main road into downtown Bratislava.
