O que você fará

I will start the tour at the Kapaleeshwar temple in Mylapore. Built in the 7th century this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. I will bring alive the whole concept of visiting a temple in this culture. I will explain to you the role a temple plays in the society and also the scientific basis of building the various elements inside the temple. The complex and mesmerizing rituals in display all have a reason which will elude the casual tourist. In my company guests will get to understand the basis for each of the rituals and get a better appreciation of this rich tradition.
Next i will take the guests to a quaint monastic organization called the Ramakrishna mission. I will explain the philosophy of Ramakrishna, one of India's greatest philosophers and also give the essence of this concept of universal temple and religion.
Santhome Basilica beckons us after Mylapore. I will take you back to the 1st century BC when St Thomas spent a few decades in South India propagating the then nascent Christianity. I will show you the hidden relic of St Thomas as well and explain how he influenced the society in Chennai.
I will end the tour at the Light House with magnificent view of the Sea.
On Mondays as the Light house is closed, we will end at the Marina Beach.

I live in Chennai and am passionate about Tamil culture. With a background in Human Resources, my mission in life is to provide an immersive cultural experience to people traveling to Chennai. I have been hosting guests to Chennai for over a decade. I love taking people to hidden gems in Chennai and around which many locals are also not aware of! I indulge my guests not only with the history and culture of the place but also the local food at the best local hangouts. My satisfaction lies in getting my guests mingle with the local people who otherwise they will not have access to as a "tourist

Onde você estará

We will start at a small shop tucked away in the street near the temple which has all the divine offerings. This provides a good context to understanding the rituals and traditions in the temple.
We will proceed to the Kapaleeswararar temple complex and first hand see all the rituals.
The universal temple of Ramakrishna Mutt and a quaint library is our next halt.
We will also visit the relic of St Thomas at San Thome. Walk ends at Marina Beach.

Although the host seems nice, there were two major issues with my tour. 1. Poor communication about meeting point. I contacted him an hour before the start of the tour to confirm the address (Since there are several places with a similar name and the Uber app only recognized one of them). He did not reach out until almost at the start of the tour. I had to pay extra money to get the taxi to reroute me to the correct location. Host did not even offer a discount or a goodwill gesture to compensate for the additional charge. 2. We did not visit one of the sites as the host stated it was closed on Monday. This was something that he should have mentioned to me well before the tour date and not on the tour at the last minute. Since the host is a regular tour guide, he should maintain more concise, consistent, and reliable communication. I do not recommend and I will be contacting Airbnb for a refund.

Kannan is a passionate about his roots and culture. I learnt a lot in this short 3 hour interaction. The tour was excellent and unique - got a good understanding of Tamil temple architecture. I can now proudly say that I do know the significance of motifs and symbols commonly seen in the big temples of South India . Definitely recommended
