O que você fará

Together we'll experience a Cambodian morning packed with authentic Khmer food, cultural insights, and delicious snacks. We'll start by exploring outdoors street food stands where you'll sit down with locals and try Cambodia’s most popular breakfast dishes, including sweet and smoky pork with green papaya pickle, and bobor, Cambodian rice porridge. We'll visit a sprawling wet market where you'll learn about local produce and vegetables and meet the food vendors who have been hawking their trade for years. We’ll try a few more dishes there, plus sweet Cambodian iced coffee.

Next we'll hop in an open-air tuk tuk and head to the countryside, where we’ll travel through sugar palm-dotted rice paddies to visit families who have made rice noodles for generations. We’ll see the age-old process and try their noodles. We’ll also visit families who make rice wine and palm sugar and sample their wares. All of this takes place out of doors, in the fresh air.

Our next stop is a street-side open-air restaurant that is known for serving the best num banh chok (fresh rice noodles with curry) in all of Cambodia. We’ll follow with local fruits and sweet snacks. Dishes change based on availability, but by the time you’re done at lunchtime you will be stuffed!

Vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians and celiacs are fine, just tell us in advance so I can plan an awesome itinerary for you.

Hi! I’m Jared. I’m originally from Boston but have been living in Cambodia for ten years. I have a master’s degree in Southeast Asian studies from the University of Michigan and I started, but didn’t finish, a PhD in anthropology at the University of Wisconsin, with a focus on Cambodia. While working on my doctorate, I lived in Ratanakiri Province where I learned Khmer, the Cambodian language. In addition to Khmer, I speak Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Malay (and I rank my fluency in that order). I work for Siem Reap Food Tours and have been leading food and culture tours around Siem Reap since April, 2019. I am passionate about Cambodia and Ultimate Frisbee (also in that order) and I try to bring my knowledge of the Kingdom’s history and respect for the culture along on every food tour.

Onde você estará

We’ll pick you up at your hotel and take you to a street food stall near Wat Damnak, then travel by tuk tuk to a large local market, then to the Siem Reap countryside near the Angkor Archaeological Park. We will vary our stops based on your own dietary preferences, seasonality, and availability. We'll try to visit places that would be hard to find or difficult to access for visitors who don't speak Khmer--in other words, a very local experience!
