O que você fará

Come and visit the smokery to the fab new tasting room for fish stories and a full board of whatever wild fish we have in store. Expect smoked pollack, hake or haddock, albacore tuna, mackerel, monkfish and most uniquely, our famous Wild Atlantic Salmon, and maybe some of our "home use" fare such as smoked ray wing or Wild Atlantic Salmon Bottarga. Everything is enjoyed with Irish brown soda bread and farmhouse butter and a hot cup of barry's tea.

I have been living and working as a fisherwoman and traditional fish smoker for 40 years here in West Cork, and I am finally opening my doors to share my knowledge with world. Working with the sea throughout my life has been a wonder, and it is such a different world to that of farmed fish and mass produced food, that we should not forget how we once did things in harmony with nature, preserving what it provides with a focus on obtaining the impossibly delicious. Let us maintain this sensible way!

You will drive up a boreen to the smokery and take in wonderful views whilst eating in the Keep, our timber tasting room. A unique opportunity to taste the increasingly rare Wild Atlantic Salmon straight from local legend, Sally barnes. You can work it all off with a 5 minute walk to a neolithic stone fort with a view of Woodcock Smokery's pantry- the Atlantic Ocean!

Sally’s passion is infectious and created a lively atmosphere for learning about her journey, her smoking process and the fish. We had the opportunity to taste haddock, tuna, mackerel & salmon during our visit. All were thoughtfully prepared with unexpected twists and what an absolute treat! Every bite was divine. Highly recommend a visit to Woodcock Smokery for unparalleled storytelling and smoked fish.

If you are anywhere nearby, make the trip. Everything — I mean everything, the food, the stories, the landscape, the people — is extraordinary. Sally is a treasure trove of information and stories, passionate about her craft, and eager to share. The food is as good as any bite I’ve had in fine dining, but the best part is the incredible team Sally has assembled. This is an absolute must do.

Please contact the smokery 24hrs before you are thinking of coming so we can make sure we have stock and aren't knee deep in fish production. Bring warm clothes too, and wellies if you fancy walking up the hill to the stone fort.
