O que você fará

After meeting at the front entrance of Sogo Department store, we will go shopping at a typical "depa-chika", a big food market at the basement of the department store in the city center, where you can find daily foodstuffs, side dishes, boxed lunch (bento) , sweets, beverages, souvenirs and so on. Next we will head to my place by bus, about 5 km away from the city center. Then you can make and enjoy box meals including rice balls, musubi or onigiri in Japanese, and Japanese rolled omelets which are different from western style omelets. In addition you could try to cook Miso soup to enjoy with the meals.
Then you will be refreshed by Japanese tea like matcha (finely ground green tea) or normal green tea with traditional Japanese sweets. Luckily for us, I have a variety of tea ceremony utensils and you can use them for tasting the Japanese tea at a typical Japanese room with tatami mats. I am sure you will feel at home blessed with an aspect of Japanese culture .
After you are refreshed you could be back at the city center (or to the Hiroshima Central Railway Station) conveniently by bus. I would be pleased if I could help you with information about your further experiences in and around Hiroshima.

My name is Harry. I live in Hiroshima and taught chemistry at Hiroshima University for a long time.
After retirement I visited several European countries to give lectures in English on chemistry and environmental education. In the meantime I enjoyed interaction with the locals by organizing cultural exchange programs like "Japan Day" in Hungary. In the events I taught them how to cook rice balls, Japanese omelets etc. and how to serve and taste Japanese tea, as I have been interested in food chemistry. There my wife who is a dietitian helped me with the class and the events were successful. After I came back here I came up with an idea that I should help overseas visitors try such foods including Japanese tea at my place. I am sure that now I can manage to do so without the help of my wife. My wife will enjoy watching me give the class.

Onde você estará

First we will go down to the basement of the department store where we meet up. After getting some ingredients for box meals as well as freshly prepared Japanese-style sweets , we will head to my place by bus. Then you get started to make your own box meal and you will enjoy eating and talking about Japanese food at our living room. After dinner we move to our guest room with tatami-mats to taste Japanese tea with traditional Japanese sweets.
